OUR PARTICIPANTS
Tough Men for a Tough Mission is a clarion call to a devastated Village under siege. Modern day Pharaohs and King Herods have marked the young men for extermination. The protectors of these boys have abdicated their divine positions leaving them vulnerable to all sorts of societal plagues; mis-education, drugs, lack of ambition and responsibility, listlessness, crime, incarceration even death. Who will redeem these children?
They are worthy of redemption, bright, intelligent full of potential they represent the future and prosperity of the woeful Village. These young scions crave the attention, love and direction a man, a father can give.
For twenty years the Concerned Christian Men (CCM) has answered the call to serve as fathers to the fatherless, providing programs, resources and themselves to frustrate the plans of the wicked Pharaohs and Herods.
The Village is fortified with fresh recruits from the youthful ranks of the CCM. Partnering with like minded people and organizations, the future of the Village is bright. There’s still much work to do but with God’s help and more tough men, we’ll soon shout “mission accomplished!”
Since 1997 CCM has:
- Implemented after school mentoring programs -- the Man-Boy Leadership Institute (MBLI) and its predecessor,
CCM In The Schools -- in 7 CPS and 1 Charter elementary school
- We have engaged 41,000 men and boys at our monthly Man Boy Breakfast
- Logged over 40,000 hours of community services from minority men with a desire to mentor urban youth
- Conducted annual events like oratory contests, stock market challenge, and Pay-for-A’s
- Held Summer Camps and Awards Dinners annually, beginning in 2006
- Awarded over $100,000 in scholarships
More importantly, we know that we are meeting an immediate need for the city of Chicago. In fall of 2014, the Concerned Christian Men surveyed 177 of our active participants. We asked them why they attended the Man Boy Breakfast. Over 50% of students stated in their own words that they attended the Man Boy Breakfast specifically for manhood training. Here are two examples of comments we received from students:
Mr. Daniels Grade 6 said “I don’t have a male to teach me how to be a man and I want to learn.”
Mr. McGee Grade 7 said “The Man Boy Breakfast helps me become a better man.”
